　繊細な表情を見せる夜明けを背景に、大きな翼を広げ二羽の鶴が優雅に渡っていく。飛翔する鶴を、松尾敏男は繰り返し描いた。ほとんどの鶴は、たたずむことなく、富士や波濤などの雄大な景色を貫くかのように、渡っていく姿で描かれる。
　松尾敏男の特徴として、その表現の巧みさと題材の幅広さが挙げられる。そのときの心の赴くまま、感動したものを画面に描きとどめていった結果、どの作品も完成度の高く昇華していった。
　院展での数々の賞を受賞の後、2000年（平成12年）文化功労者、2009年（平成21年）より日本美術院理事長に就任、2016年（平成28年）90歳の生涯を閉じるまでその大役を務めた。

Two cranes with their large wings spread wide gracefully cross against the background of daybreak revealing delicate expressions. Toshio Matsuo repeatedly drew cranes in flight. Most of the cranes are depicted as crossing as though penetrating the magnificent scenery of Mt. Fuji and the surging sea instead of standing still.
The features of Toshio Matsuo include the dexterity of his expression and the wide range of his subjects. As a result of drawing what impressed him just as his heart showed him in the painting, all his pieces were sublimated with a high degree of perfection.
He won numerous awards at the Japan Art Institute Exhibition. After that, he was appointed a Person of Cultural Merit in 2000. He served as the Chair of the Japan Art Institute from 2009 until he passed away at the age of 90 in 2016.
