墨絵のようなしっとりした風景の中に、白く浮かび上がる橋。日本には珍しい石造りらしきアーチ橋は、作者の憧憬の風景かもしれない。
高山辰雄の風景に込められた憧憬は、1980年代以降、豊かな自然の中に抱かれる、小さな家という姿となって画面に現れる。風景画を描きながらも、森羅万象の自然の中にひっそりと営まれる、人間という小さな命を見つめる作者の姿が浮き彫りになっている。
大家になった後も創作活動は途絶えることはなく、生涯のテーマである「人間」「生命」を通して、自然、さらには宇宙の営みにまで想いを馳せ、2007年（平成19年）95歳の生涯を閉じるまで、作者は絵筆を執り続けた。

The yearning contained in the landscapes of Tatsuo Takayama appears in the small houses embraced by abundant nature from the 1980s onward. The figure of the artist staring at the small life of a human being inconspicuously living in the nature of all of creation while drawing a landscape painting is brought to the fore.
Even after becoming a master, he never stopped his creative activities. He made us think about the workings of nature and then the universe through his lifelong themes of human beings and life. He continued to paint until he passed away at the age of 95 in 2007.
