美しい縦の線を描きながら整然と並ぶ早苗。緑のみずみずしい色合いが目に心地よい。
「吉田様式」と言われる表現手法がある。一度彩色を施した画面をしわくしゃに丸めてから、もう一度きれいに広げのばし、そこへ金箔を張り付けてさらに削り出す。最後に上から絵筆を加えて完成させるという、非常に手の凝った手法である。その複雑な工程を経ることで、近づくとデリケートな表情を見せる画面、しかし全体的には光に包まれているような幻想的な風景と仕上がっていることが分かる。
この手法は作者が法隆寺金堂壁画修復事業に参加、先人たちの絵画を目の当たりにした体験がきっかけになっている。

It is a technique of expression called the Yoshida style. A colored painting is crumpled up and then extended out neatly once again. Gold leaf is then affixed there and further shaved. Finally, a paintbrush is added from above to finish it. This is an extremely elaborate technique. The painting reveals delicate expressions when seen close up due to undergoing this complicated process. However, it produces a magical landscape like being entirely enveloped in light.
The impetus for this technique was the artist’s experience of participating in a project to restore the frescos on the main structure of Horyu-ji Temple that allowed him to witness the paintings of our predecessors.
