A trunk extends up from the picture and fallen leaves cover the surface. The world on the ground is reflected on the surface of the water. In the water that takes a little peek at the fallen leaves floating on the surface… Your line of sight will twist every time you follow the images layered on top of each other while the joy of loving the piece will fill your body.
The sense of immersion just as though watching the opening scene of a wondrous movie is characteristic of Yuji Tezuka’s pieces. They are modern, sophisticated and urban smartness somehow appears and then disappears in them.
Yuji Tezuka was born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1953. He studied Japanese painting at the Tokyo University of the Arts. He won the Grand Award at the Japan Art Institute Awards three years in a row from the age of 36. He was recommended to the Japan Art Institute Exhibition early on at the age of 39. He won the Minister of Education Award and the Prime Minister Award at the Japan Art Institute Exhibition in 1997 and 2000 respectively.
