金を背景にくっきりと浮かび上がる、赤と白の罌(け)粟(し)の花。伝統的な表現の中に、色遣いや筆致にどこか現代的なモダンさが感じられる画面である。
　岡崎忠雄は、1943年（昭和18年）京都出身。京都市立美術大学で日本画を専攻し、創画会展にて春季展賞を受賞。本作品に見られるような花の作品を数多く手掛け、特に罌粟と牡丹の作品に定評があった。その技量から大成することが期待されていたが、2002年（平成14年）、59歳という惜しまれる年齢でこの世を去った。
　新しい展開を感じさせる作品「キリストの復活」（ピエロ・デラ・フランチェスカの模写）、「径・トスカーナ」が結実した矢先の突然の死であった。

Tadao Okazaki was born in Kyoto in 1943. He majored in Japanese painting at the Kyoto City University of Arts. He won the Spring Season Exhibition Award at the SOGA-kai Association of Japanese Painting Exhibition. He has worked on many pieces of flowers like those that can be seen in this piece. His poppy and tree peony pieces are especially well-renowned. It was expected that he would be a great success because of that talent. However, he regrettably passed away at the age of 59 in 2002.
It was a sudden death right when the fruits of his labors were proving a success with the Resurrection of Christ (a copy of Piero della Francesca and Path to Tuscany pieces that allow us to sense new developments.
