ドーム兄弟は、19世紀後半から20世紀前半にかけて活躍した、フランスのガラス工芸家で、兄はオーギュスト、弟はアントナン。普仏戦争でフランスが敗れたため、ナンシーへ避難したドーム一家は、そこで投資したガラス工房の経営者となり、ガラス製品の生産活動を開始した。
ドーム兄弟は、技術開発にも力を注ぎ、数々の特許を獲得するに至っている。特に「ヴィトリフィカシオン」という、色のついたガラス片や粉を溶解しているガラスにまぶしつけ、再び加熱して上に一体化させる技術は、作品の表現の幅を大いに広げた。
本作品にもこの「ヴィトリフィカシオン」が多用され、独特の色合いによって魅力な表情を呈している。
The Daum Brothers were French glass craftsmen who were active from the later 19th century to the early 20th century. The older brother was called Auguste and the younger brother was called Antonin. The Daum Family evacuated to Nancy because France was defeated in the Franco-Prussian War. The family then became the proprietor of a glass studio that they invested in there.
The Daum Brothers also poured their efforts into technological development. Accordingly, they obtained numerous patents. In particular their technique of vitrification greatly extended the range of the expression of pieces. This is a technique in which colored glass shards and powder are sprinkled on melted glass and then again unified upon being re-heated.
Vitrification was frequently used in this piece. The distinctive coloring then gives it an attractive expression.
