細いその土台にもかかわらず、絵柄がしっかりと見えるのが見事な佳作。この作品も「酸化腐食彫り」の技術が用いられており、このようなデリケートな表現が可能となる。
ガレの名を広く知らしめたのは1889年のパリ万博であった。ガラス部門、陶器部門、家具部門でグランプリや金賞などを受賞し、国際的に高評価を獲得。翌年のパリ万博も大成功を収めその名を不動のものとした。
また、一大日本ブームを巻き起こした1900年のパリ万博の際にも、大量のガラス器、家具を出品し、グランプリを獲得。しかし、その評判がピークになっていた最中の1904年、白血病のため突然の死に襲われた。58歳という、まだ活躍が惜しまれる年齢であった。
This is a splendid piece that allows you to clearly see the pattern despite its thin foundations. The oxidative corrosion carving technique has also been used in this piece. Accordingly, it is possible to see such delicate expressions.
Galle’s name became widely known thanks to the Paris Expo in 1889. He won the grand prix and gold awards in the glass, pottery and furniture categories. That led to international acclaim. He also achieved great success at the Paris Expo the following year. That gave him a steadfast reputation.
He exhibited a large quantity of glassware and furniture at the Paris Expo in 1900 that caused a huge boom in popularity of Japan. He won the grand prix at the exhibition. However, he passed away suddenly due to leukemia in 1904 right when his reputation was at its peak. He was 58 years old – an age when he should still have been active.
