Reiji Hiramatsu started his Paths series in the 1970s. This became his life work. These were sometimes narrow ridges between rice fields or paths hidden by plants. He worked on many similar pieces to this motif and composition. It is a highly popular design in the series.
Reiji Hiramatsu was born in Tokyo in 1941 and then raised in Nagoya. He idolized the painter Misao Yokoyama. He won the Exhibition Grand Award at the Yamatane Museum of Art Exhibition Awards – a gateway to success for Japanese painters – and then produced accomplishments in a favorable manner in his 40s. He unveiled this piece in 1999 after actively being involved in creative activities while teaching the younger generation as a professor at Tama Art University. Impressionists – Path to Japonism inspired by Claude Monet’s water lilies was well-received both inside and outside Japan.
