帖佐美行は、1915年（大正4年）鹿児島県生まれ。伝統的な表現で器を手掛ける一方で、現代の生活と調和した金属工芸の在り方を模索した。
絵画でさえ、美術館で展示されてあるものを見に行くのではなく、家庭の中で飾り、共に生活しながら住む人が、心を豊かになるように「用」いるべきだと唱えた。
当館には珍しい日本作家による金属工芸でありながら、他の作品と並んでも不思議と違和感がない。見方によれば、アールヌーヴォー的なモダンな雰囲気も漂っているからであろう。
帖佐美行は1975年（昭和50年）、日展の常任理事に就任、1993年（平成5年）に文化勲章を受章。そして2002年（平成14年）、87年の生涯を閉じた。
Yoshiyuki Chosa was born in Kagoshima Prefecture in 1915. He worked on vessels with traditional expressions. On the other hand, he sought a way of metal crafts that was in harmony with modern life.
He argued that even paintings should be hung in the home rather going to visit an exhibition at an art gallery so that they can be used to enrich the soul by the people in the home living together with them.
Although this is metal craft that is rare for a Japanese artist, it does not seem strange or out of place lined up with the other pieces in this museum. That is because it gives off an art nouveau-style modern air depending on how you look at it.
Yoshiyuki Chosa was appointed a permanent director of the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition in 1975 and received the Order of Culture in 1993. He then passed away at the age of 87 in 2002.
