朝日に照らされて、金色に煌めくヒマラヤの屹立した峰々。雲と雪にけぶるその雄大なるパノラマは、作者の崇高なる精神のフィルターを通して、神々しい光景へと昇華している。
福王子法林は1920年（大正9年）、山形県米沢市、生まれ。1936年（昭和11年）召集を受け中国へ出征、5年後に復員し、画家の道を本格的に歩む。
代表作となる「ヒマラヤ」をテーマにした作品群は、作者が54歳の当時、長年の夢であったヒマラヤへの取材旅行実現によって結実した、憧憬の賜物と言ってよいだろう。作者にとって、ヒマラヤは以降の生涯のテーマとなった。
2004年（平成16年）、文化勲章を受章。2012年（平成24年）、91歳にて死去。

Horin Fukuoji was born in Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture in 1920. He departed to the front during the war in China after being called up in 1936. He demobilized five years later and started a career in earnest as a painter.
His collection of masterpieces under the theme of the Himalayas are a gift of aspiration resulting from the realization of a long-cherished dream to take a trip to the mountains when he was 54 years old. The Himalayas became a lifelong theme for the artist after that.
He received the Order of Culture in 2004 and then passed away at 91 in 2012.
