中川一政の作品としては珍しい扇型の画面。その中央にあやめを大きく描き、つつじは左に寄せて右上の空間を開けるように構成している。これは扇に絵を描くときの特殊なテクニックである。
中川一政は書にも長け、画風に見られる筆致の荒々しさ、絶妙な配置のセンスが、書にも遺憾なく発揮されている。書と絵を組み合わせる”俳画”風の作品も多く、自ずと日本人らしい表現を獲得しているのは、独学で芸術性を開花させた作者の別の大きな一面を示していると言えるだろう。
東洋美術の深い精神性を吸収し、中川一政は単なる洋画家のスケールを超えていった。その画歴が評価され、1975年（昭和50年）文化勲章を受章している。

A fan-shaped painting that is rare for a piece by Kazumasa Nakagawa. It has been composed so that the iris has been drawn large in the center and the azaleas have been brought to the left to open up a space at the top-right. This is a special technique when drawing a picture on a fan.
Kazumasa Nakagawa is also proficient at writing. The roughness of the brush strokes seen in this style of painting and the exquisite sense of placement is amply demonstrated in the writing. There are many haiga (briefly drawn) style pieces that combine writing and pictures. It can be said that the natural acquisition of expressions worthy of Japanese people demonstrates another major side to the artist who taught himself artistry.
Absorbing the deep spirituality of oriental art, Kazumasa Nakagawa went beyond the scale of a simple Western-style painter. His painting history was recognized and he received the Order of Culture in 1975.
